Wasabi is a plant native to Japan and belongs to the watercress family, although many of them also belong to the horseradish family. It grows exclusively in fields close to or in the water and is difficult to cultivate. The roots of the plants are traditionally grated and served with soy sauce and ginger as a sushi side dish.
